There are always gaps between students’ use of ICT in learning and entertainment. This is so called “digital capital” and could have an effect on academic achievement in schools. In addition to socioeconomic backgrounds, there are other reasons for the phenomenon. These are cultural (technological) capital, resources, and the mediation philosophy of ICT usage of parents. There are always differences in these factors between lower-class and middle-class parents. Thus, in order to bridge the divide, we must educate them in both ICT skills and mediation theories. This will result in a change of beliefs among parents concerning how they mediate with their children regarding the issues of using digital devices. Hence, with this author’s own philosophy of educational technology, we can encourage “positive and quality use of ICT” among students and consequently provide a good influence on academic performance.
